Monkey Bread
INGREDIENTS:
2 pkg. yeast
2 c. warm water
3/4 c. melted shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
7 c. sifted plain flour
2 sticks butter
DIRECTIONS:
Dissolve yeast in 2 cups warm water; add sugar, salt, egg, shortening and 3 1/3 cups flour. Beat real well. Gradually add the remaining flour and knead well for 10 minutes. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness on lightly floured board and cut like dumplings. Dip each piece in melted butter and drop into tube cake pan, helter skelter. Let rise until double in bulk about 2 1/2 hours. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Turn out on dinner plate and serve hot. Just pull apart or can slice. Use 2 tube pans for whole recipe or can use half of recipe for one pan.
