French Bread Pizza

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb. extra sharp cheese, grated
1 can chopped ripe olives
1 lg. onion, finely chopped
1 c. salad oil
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
Salt
Garlic powder
Oregano
French bread

DIRECTIONS:

Combine the cheese, olives, onion, salad oil and tomato sauce. Season to taste with salt, garlic powder and oregano. Slice French bread 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick. Toast lightly on both sides. Spread the cheese mixture on the toast and broil until bubbly and flaked with brown. The cheese mixture will last for weeks in the refrigerator. This is very good served with any shell fish salad. Makes 60 pizzas.

French Bread Toast

INGREDIENTS:

6 eggs
1 1/2 c. milk
3 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/8 tsp. nutmeg
1 loaf French bread, cut into 3/4″ slices
1/2 c. butter, melted

DIRECTIONS:

Beat eggs. Stir in milk. Add sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. Stir well. Place bread slices on rimmed baking sheet. Pour mixture over the bread. Let stand a few minutes, then turn over. When entire mixture has been absorbed, freeze in pan.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Take pan from freezer and release frozen slices by dipping bottom of baking sheet into hot water. Brush butter on both sides of bread and place on clean cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes on one side. Turn over and bake 10 minutes longer. Serve immediately with maple syrup.

Easy French Bread

INGREDIENTS:

1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 1/2 c. very warm water
1 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. soft shortening or oil
4 c. sifted flour
Melted butter

DIRECTIONS:

Sprinkle yeast into 1/2 cup water; stir until dissolved. In a large bowl, dissolve sugar and salt in remaining 1 cup water. Add shortening and yeast mixture; mix well. Add flour and mix well. Work through dough with a spoon at 10 minute intervals for 5 consecutive times. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and divide in half. Shape into 2 balls. Let rest 10 minutes. Roll each ball into a 12 x 9 inch rectangle. Then roll firmly as for jelly roll, starting with the long side. Seal edge. Place rolls on baking sheet. Score top diagonally 6 times. Cover with a towel and let rise approximately 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Brush with melted butter while warm.
