Mother’s Brown Bread

INGREDIENTS:

1 c. molasses
2 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 handful bran
1/2 to 1 c. raisins
2 c. white flour
2 c. whole wheat flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt

DIRECTIONS:

Bake at 325 degrees about 1 hour. Makes 2 small loaves.
This recipe was used by my Mother during the First World War. The women of Chester, New York made and sold this bread to buy war bonds.
