INGREDIENTS:
1 teaspoon butter
4 bananas
6 thin slices buttered bread
1/4 cup raisins
2 1/2 cups milk
2 whole eggs, PLUS”PLUS” means this ingredient in addition to the one on the next line, often with divided uses
2 yolks
2 tablespoons soft brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
DIRECTIONS:
Grease a medium-sized baking dish with the butter. Peel the bananas and slice into rounds. Halve the bread slices. Put layers of the bread, bananas and raisins in the dish ending with a layer of bread. In a pan heat the milk over a moderate heat.
Beat the eggs and sugar together. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring continuously. Pour the milk-egg mixture into the baking dish and leave to stand 30 minutes. Dust the top with nutmeg and bake at 190 C for 30 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
